Ludo Campbell-Reid

Ludo Campbell-Reid is an urban designer, city planner and recognised global authority on cities, with more than thirty years of senior executive experience on city shaping projects in London, Cape Town, Auckland and Melbourne. He holds a Master of Arts and a postgraduate diploma in Urban Design from Oxford Brookes University and a BA Honours degree in Urban Planning Studies from the University of Westminster, and advises governments, ministers, mayors, councils, city leaders, communities and industry.

His career includes leading the precinct and infrastructure planning for the 34 billion dollar Suburban Rail Loop in Melbourne, the largest integrated planning, precinct and rail infrastructure project in the history of Victoria, as Executive General Manager of Planning and Precincts. As General Manager of Business, Economy and Activation at the City of Melbourne he led the city's post-Covid economic recovery and major events programme. He served as Auckland's first ever Design Champion from 2006 to 2019 and led the Auckland Design Office through a thirteen year design-led transformation of the central city and waterfront, during which Auckland was named the world's most liveable city in 2021.

Earlier he was founding Chief Executive of Urban Design London, supported by CABE, Transport for London, the Mayor of London and the thirty-three London boroughs, adviser to the Mayor of London's expert Design Panel, and Chief Urban Designer to the Cape Town 2004 Olympic Bid Authority. He has led master planning for Canary Wharf, early master planning for the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, and peer review of public housing programmes for the Housing and Development Board in Singapore.

He is an honorary life member of the Designers Institute of New Zealand, a sought after keynote speaker and workshop facilitator worldwide, a media commentator on urban issues, and a committed mentor and environmentalist.
