Jasmine Kaur
Municipal Planner
Canada
About
I am a municipal planner with over thirteen years of experience working across diverse planning systems in Canada and India. My professional journey has been shaped by a deep interest in how communities grow, adapt, and make decisions, and by hands‑on involvement in planning processes that balance policy, development pressures, and public interest.
I began my career in India, working on large‑scale urban and environmental planning projects, including redevelopment plans, informal settlement upgrades, and environmentally sensitive areas. Those early years gave me a strong foundation in spatial thinking, regulatory frameworks, and the social dimensions of planning, as well as experience working in complex, high‑pressure environments with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
Since moving to Canada, I have worked in municipal planning roles with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, the City of Calgary, and currently Rocky View County. My work has included reviewing and deciding on land use redesignations, subdivisions, local plans, endorsements, and development applications across rural and urban contexts. Over the past several years, I have rendered decisions on hundreds of planning applications and contributed to statutory plan updates, resilience initiatives, wildfire recovery efforts, and redevelopment programs.
In my current role, I am involved in major intermunicipal planning initiatives, including managing complex concept plan files with regional economic significance. I regularly prepare planning reports and recommendations for Council and senior leadership and value clear communication, professional judgment, and collaboration as essential tools in public decision‑making.
I hold a Master of Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture, and I continue to invest in professional growth through mentorship, learning, and service. At the core of my work is a commitment to thoughtful, fair, and pragmatic planning that supports resilient communities and meaningful outcomes.
