Hernan Guerrero Applewhite

Hernan Guerrero Applewhite is an urban planner and independent consultant with more than 20 years of experience in community and economic development, urban design and GIS across the United States. He studied urban, cultural and economic geography at Clark University and holds a Master of City and Regional Planning from Pratt Institute, where he was drawn to the community development corporation model, as well as a Master of Architecture from Florida International University. His early career spanned GIS systems for cities and towns across the north-eastern US before he moved to the analysis and implementation side of the field, leading housing acquisition, rehabilitation and historic-preservation initiatives with community development corporations and business improvement districts in New York. As a Senior Town Planner and Urban Designer with Dover, Kohl & Partners he directed design guidelines, corridor studies and masterplans, including a Congress for the New Urbanism Charter Award-winning plan for North Beach, Miami. He has also led affordable-housing and revitalisation efforts in Miami and teaches urban design at FIU. He provides technical assistance, mapping, research and planning services, with interests in strategic planning, urban regeneration, citizen participation, local economic development and international work.
